Intern (Planning) | Dothan, AL

The City of Dothan is looking for qualified candidates for the position of Intern. As an internship position, ALL applicants must be registered full time students and/or post graduate students within the last twelve months to apply. The Internship Program is designed to be mutually beneficial for the student and the City of Dothan, and while the City considers this program a part of the overall workforce planning system, there can be NO guarantee of full-time employment at the end of the internship. Funding for this program will be determined annually. The student internship position is a twelve (12) week assignment designed to enrich students through employment opportunities with the City of Dothan.

Additionally, the Intern will complete assigned tasks including, but not limited to, providing program or project support which may include the collection and analysis of data; creating formal presentations of drafts, reports, proposals, charts, testing results and other urban planning related documentation; and assisting in planning a wayfinding sign package for a major corridor. Other duties may be assigned, including assistance to institutions and entities listed on signage for compliance with ALDOT regulations for approval. Position Requirements

Graduation from a standard senior-high school or GED equivalent, as recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and

Completed a minimum of twenty-four (24) credit hours, by the end of Spring 2023 semester, in pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Urban Geography or closely related field form an accredited* college or university; and

A 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or better GPA on all completed coursework (provide the most recent transcript); and

Prior work experience, community involvement, or participation in extra-curricular activities.

*Accredited through an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education (CHEA).

Salary & Benefits (Pay Rates vary)

$15.44/hour for Freshmen and Sophomores

$20.61/hour for Juniors, Seniors, Recent Graduates (within the last 12 months) and returning City of Dothan interns.
