16th Annual Planners’ and Zoning Administrators’ Conference – Planning is Much More Than Problem-Solving

July 19, 2013 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

$169

Summary

Many of us have waited so long for new investment – and we are looking for ways to attract new development. In fact, as we continue to emerge from uncertain economic times, most of us have a stake in resuming construction in our cities and towns. In response, the instructor asserts that planning should be a key component of the community building and development process, and that planning is “much more than problem-solving.”

You will take away from this course an overall approach to planning that will enable you to avoid problems rather than just “solve” them as you guide growth and development in your community. You will learn the reasons why, whether the issue is visioning, urban design, sustainability, or development management, that planning must get well beyond just trying to deal with community problems. And, as a bonus, participants will appreciate how and why those who work in the public sector – and especially planning and zoning officials – should understand and concern themselves with the whole of the community through a continuing exercise in problem-avoidance.
