2016 Alabama APA Award Recipients
The Alabama APA Awards Program recognizes the “best in planning” across the state. Nominations were bestowed at the 2016 AL/MS Annual Conference in the fall at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino, Biloxi, Mississippi. Alabama APA is proud to congratulate our 2016 recipients listed below.
DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP AWARDS
- Kenneth J. Groves, Jr. Distinguished Leadership Award for a Professional Planner: Rebecca Retzlaff, AICP, Ph.D., Auburn University
- Distinguished Leadership Award for an Elected Public Official: Mayor Sandy Stimpson, City of Mobile
- Dr. Robert J. Juster Distinguished Leadership Award for a Friend of Planning: Debi Foster, The Peninsula of Mobile
- Distinguished Leadership Award for a Planning Student Team: Auburn University Fall 2015, Sustainable Transportation Planning Class, “Bicycle Master Plan for the City of Auburn”

- Outstanding Planning Award for a Comprehensive Plan: City of Alabaster, Alabama, “Alabaster Forward: City of Alabaster Comprehensive Plan Update”
- Outstanding Planning Award for a Plan or Planning Program: City of Auburn, Alabama, “City of Auburn Downtown Master Plan”
- Outstanding Planning Award for a Project/Program/Tool: City of Anniston, Alabama, “City of Anniston’s Area Bicycle and Pedestrian Program”
- Franklin M. Setzer Outstanding Urban Design Project Award: Rotary Club of Birmingham and the City of Birmingham, “Rotary Trail Plan and Design”
