SUMMARY:Mechanics of Evaluating Site Plans and Subdivision Plats
DESCRIPTION:Summary\nThis course will provide an overview of what should be required as the basic content for site plan and subdivision plat submission\, and how to recognize and interpret the information. Attendees will participate in hands-on group activities involving the evaluation of sample plans against a set of mock regulations and conditions. As part of these activities participants will be asked to discuss their findings and formulate recommendations for actions to be taken on each case. Following the exercise instructors will discuss with the class the various findings. \nLearning Objectives Include: \n\nHow to develop a site plan/subdivision check list\nRecognizing the various symbols contained in development plans\nHow to evaluate information provided on plans against the requirements of local regulations and land conditions\nFormulating and evaluating plat notes\nHow to formulate a recommendation\n\nSpeaker\nKatherine Ennis recently retired as the Director of Planning & Inspections for the City of Northport\, Alabama\, where she oversees the administration of the City’s zoning ordinance\, subdivision regulations\, comprehensive plan and building code standards. Katherine has over 28 years of experience in municipal\, county\, and regional planning. In addition to her work with Northport\, Katherine is an elected official sitting on the City Council of the City of Helena\, Alabama. She has also served on Helena’s planning commission\, design review board and chaired their greenway committee. Katherine is a member of the Auburn University Planning Advisory Council\, has served nine years in various positions on the Executive Committee of the Alabama Chapter of the American Planning Association\, currently as its President\, and sits on the Board of Directors of Your Town Alabama. Originally from Louisville\, Kentucky\, Katherine moved to Alabama in 1980. She is a Graduate of Auburn University with Masters Degrees in both Community Planning and Public Administration and holds an undergraduate degree in Marketing. Katherine began her career in public service in 1982 with the City of Auburn where she worked for 18 years in the planning department. In 2000 she joined the staff of Shelby County’s Planning Department as the Senior Planner in charge of land development. In 2002 she took a position with Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission as Senior Planner\, serving the three counties and ten cities in that region. In 2006 Katherine assumed her current position with the City of Northport.  \nGreg Clark is currently the Executive Director of the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission in Montgomery\, Alabama. He has over thirty years experience in planning\, community development\, grant management\, economic development\, transportation\, and public administration. During his professional career\, he has worked with all levels of government: local\, county\, regional\, state\, and federal and assisted in the establishment of non-profits and community development organizations. He has also been employed by the Consolidated Government of Columbus\, Georgia\, as the Chief of Economic Development\, Community Development Block Grant Administrator and City Planner\, and the Columbus Housing Initiative as the Community Development Director. Greg has lived in Eufaula most of his life. He went to Huntingdon College in Montgomery where he majored in Psychology and Sociology (1976-1980) and attended the University of Tennessee for Urban Planning (1980-1982).
