SUMMARY:Share local knowledge to design an online decision support tree for climate change tools in the Gulf of Mexico - Alabama
DESCRIPTION:Powerful online tools are available to help planners\, community leaders\, conservation groups and resource managers. These tools help planners and other users understand and visualize the likely effects of heat\, drought\, flooding and sea level rise. Others tools enable planners and other users to identify potential plans and actions to protect citizens\, infrastructure and natural resources. Choosing the online tools that meets a planner’s needs is important. Planners and other decision-makers will work with Northern Gulf of Mexico Sentinel Site Cooperative and project partners to design a new decision-support tree that will help users choose tools. The decision support tree will be a “one stop” website where planners and other users can walk through a series of questions that will help them identify the best tools for their needs. At this event\, planners will share knowledge and be active participants in this project. Planners will express their needs and provide input on planning uses to make the decision-support tree and website a success. During this half-day meeting\, planner will address aspects of the decision-making process: 1) the effects of climate related issues important to planning in your community\, 2) how planners are using climate tools/models\, and 3) the features that will help planners make better choices when using our new online decision-support tree. In about a year\, planners will be invited back to see how participation helped create the final decision-support tree. \nLunch is provided. DESCRIPTION:This is Your Town Alabama’s 18th year anniversary! The workshop consists of highly informative presentations and problem-solving activities for participants. It also provides a wonderful opportunity to network with other leaders from communities throughout Alabama. You will make contacts with presenters who work throughout Alabama in the planning\, design\, economic development\, and resource preservation fields. The focus of the workshop aims specifically to introduce small town and rural technical assistance providers and decision makers to the role of design in community planning. Former participants remark that the workshop is FUN and invigorating and opened their minds to many possibilities. If you or other community leaders are interested in attending this workshop\, please complete the application on-line by July 29\, 2016. The number of participants we accept is limited\, therefore\, you are strongly encouraged to apply early. The preferred method of registering is to complete the application and pay on-line. It provides you with the means to define the type and intensity of uses permitted on any piece of property. \nYour city’s subdivision regulations govern the manner in which vacant land is platted into streets\, blocks\, and lots in preparation for development. They are\, therefore\, very important in that they establish the street pattern and the type of improvements that must be made as land is brought into urban use. \nIn the “Basic Zoning and Subdivision Regulations” seminar\, you’ll learn the legal basis in Alabama law for regulating the use of land and its subdivision.
